"Believe in your present and work for your future."
To me this quote resonates with a lot of life changes I've experienced and it's something I've learned to live by this past year. I realized that in order to create change I had to live in the present and be grateful for what I have now. That way I can plan for my future and prevent those past mistakes.
All About Me
I grew up in Anson County where I attended Morven Elementary, Anson Middle and Anson High. I was placed into AIG (academically or intellectually gifted) program through elementary and middle school. In ninth grade I was put into YCC which is a program that allowed students to choose from a variety of pathways that pertained to their future careers. I have a strong passion for healthcare which lead me to choosing the biomedical pathway. In tenth grade, I was inducted into honor society and remained there until I graduated. During that time, I began taking college courses through our local community college. After my first semester I was inducted into the national society of leadership and success which is known as their honor society. I graduated Anson High summa cum laude and from South Piedmont Community College with an AA degree.
In my free time I like to go out with friends, shop, listen to music, journal, and go to the gym. I find all of these things relaxing and it takes away from the stress of school. People that know me would describe me as laid-back and goofy. My strengths are being responsible, detail-oriented, supportive, and hard-working. My weaknesses are time-management, procrastination, and being soft-spoken. I have gotten better at managing my time by planning things based on their importance. I try to give myself enough time to get things done so I won't procrastinate and I have gotten better at voicing my opinions especially when I'm working in a group.
My love for medicine has been around for as long as I can remember and with everything going on in the world right now I have a much greater respect for healthcare professionals. Along with my passion for medicine I also love kids - babies especially. Being the oldest of six siblings, I have watched them grow up from babies to pre-teens and the experience has been amazing. In the beginning, I wanted to become a pediatrician, however as I got older I realized the idea of going to school for that long was something I didn't want to do. When I discovered what a PA was and the variety of specialties they could go into I decided that was the route I wanted to take. Recently, I have been working towards that goal by making sure I am taking the required prerequisites for PA school and searching for summer internships that will help me gain clinical experience.
